A fantastic hotel that lives up to its reputation as one of the
best 4* hotels in Cape Town. Stylish and with homely touches, Spier
has a main pool and sunbathing area for guests as well as small
private pools between the accommodation buildings. There is also an
excellent Spa that offers a wide range of treatments. The property
is set in 13 acres of land with plenty of outdoor activities to
enjoy including horse riding, an excellent childrens playground and
activity centre, golf, as well as a cheetah and bird of prey
sanctuary.
Exterior: Built in traditional Cape style the hotel is spread out
over a wide area and resembles a small village. The rooms are split
between 6 buildings, all of which are no longer than 2 storeys high
and peach in colour.
Lobby: Recently refurbished, the large lobby entrance is bright and
inviting with a large U-shaped reception desk to the right as you
enter. The work of local South African artists hangs from the walls
and the hotel bar is immediately in front of you as you enter the
lobby.
Rooms
The rooms are amongst the most spacious in Cape Town and are
elegantly furnished in the traditional style of the region. The
rooms and are beautifully furnished and the en-suite bathrooms are
very big. Rooms have large beds, comfortable whicker chairs and a
writing desk. All rooms have satelitte TV, room service and either
immediate access to the gardens/ private sunbathing area or a
private balcony.
Restaurant & Food
At the Spier restaurant guests can enjoy mouth-watering breakfasts
and dinners prepared with only the freshest Cape produce. Views
from the restaurant are of the estate and the surrounding
Helderberg Mountains. The hotel also has a very contemporary and
stylish wine Bar adjacent to the restaurant offering light, tasty
and healthy meals, wines and coffees. Both the restaurant and wine
bar have outdoor terraces where guests can sit in the sun or shade.
The Jonkershuis is another excellent restaurant offering a la carte
South African meals which can be enjoyed inside, out on the shaded
terrace or in the gardens alongside the Eerste River. Moyo is one
of South Africas most famous restaurant brands and offers an
unforgettable evening under the southern stars, with its sumptuous
buffet and vibrant live entertainment daily.
Directions, How to get
there
From Cape Town International Airport guests should take the N2
toward Somerset West (in the opposite direction to Cape Town). Take
exit 33, the Baden Powell Drive/ R310 Stellenbosch turn-off, turn
left in the direction of Stellenbosch, and the Spier Estate is
about 9 km down the road on the right. From Cape Town City Centre,
take the N2 towards Cape Town International Airport, continue past
the airport turn-off, this is approximately 10 km after the cooling
towers. Take exit 33, the Baden Powell Drive/ R310 Stellenbosch
turn-off, turn left in the direction of Stellenbosch and the Spier
Estate is some 9 km down the road on the right.
